9-12 ViP Virtual instruction Program

Families can enroll now to join ViP. Please meet with your home high school counselor to discuss this virtual option.

Like our traditional schools, residents may file for an intradistrict transfer to join ViP.  If you live outside the NUSD boundaries, you may file an interdistrict transfer request which will be considered.

ViP offers flexibility in scheduling to meet the needs of families and students but it is an online based school with both live and virtual teaching and check-ins, it is not a traditional independent study program.

ViP is an expansion of the already existing independent study program combined with virtual lessons, options to attend necessary classes on their campus or community college campus, plus be able to participate in athletics and other extracurricular activities.

ViP is a NUSD program providing options for virtual, or online, learning that may take place in a classroom or from any remote location and is combined with live instruction and in-person instructional supports. The pandemic style distance learning model was a response to the pandemic while ViP is a long-term educational option for families and students wanting online and in-person instruction with flexibility to meet their needs.

As a NUSD program, ViP meets the California state requirements for 180 days of instruction. Enrollment in ViP is recommended for an annual, or year long, commitment as in other NUSD schools.  However, we understand that sometimes changes are needed and parent/guardians do have the ability to change (although there are some specific requirements that changes occur along grading periods such as the end of a semester)

ViP works in conjunction with IHS and NHS. Students may choose as few as two virtual classes with four classes on campus in person or be a full-time virtual student. This flexible scheduling allows students the ability to maintain a job or participate in community activities or whatever the needs of the family may be.

ViP is a program in a state funded public school in Natomas Unified School District and there is no tuition/costs.

No. ViP is a virtual option for students of IHS and NHS.

The flexibility of ViP’s schedule provides flexibility in the days of the week and the times of the school day that students meet with their teacher(s), counselor, or other coaches or support staff. There may be classes taken in person on the high school campus or community college.  ViP’s flexible schedule allows students to complete work in independently with weekly check ins with the teacher to ensure learning is positive and productive.  Lastly, there are opportunities for hybrid learning opportunities where students can, optionally, come to a ViP learning center to complete projects or activities with their teachers such as science labs, math projects, reading circles, and much, much more!

Yes. ViP students are still students at IHS or NHS with all the benefits of in person students at those NUSD high schools.
